We all wants to talk free to our friends, family members and to our close ones. We always search for the lowest tariff plans when ever we recharge, and we select a Sim card based on the cheapest tariffs provided by the operator. When ever we go from one state to others we are charged for roaming. But now the scenario is changing and the Government has asked the operators to abolish the Roaming within India which will be implemented from March 2013. As the Roaming fees give a revenue of 10% to the operators, they are going to increase the tariffs to overcome there losses.
So we must feel happy to have roaming free Sim Cards but at the same time we will have the increased Tariffs rate which will frustrate us for a while.
The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), the body representing mobile phone companies on the GSM platform such as Vodafone and Bharti Airtel, has criticised government's idea to do away with roaming charges, and has maintained that the DoT must first sort out a slew of policy-related issues, including migration to the unified licence, before asking telcos to do away with this charge.
Mobile phone companies believe reasons like higher tariffs, security threat should be enough to retain the concept of STD and roaming charges. Mobile phone companies also say that removal of roaming charges would lead to free-flow of SIMs across circles on a permanent basis.
Roaming free India from March 2013......Yippiiii :)
Tariffs increased.... :(
